A New Product We Need Your Help With…

Sep 28

Hi everyone,

We have been pondering the idea of selling our patterns for a long time. We realize most young girls probably don’t know how to sew, and maybe don’t even have a sewing machine in their house. So we’re not sure how many people would be interested in our patterns. We made a Liberty Jane Jeans book (which we’re giving away as a prize in our latest Youtube contest) but it’s very expensive to print, and we don’t think people will pay what it would cost for us to make it and sell it.

So we’ve come up with an alternative idea – a downloadable version. It’s a step-by-step guide to creating jeans for your 18 inch doll – with the pattern for our Liberty Jane Jeans included (you heard us right). You download it, print it on your printer, and follow the directions.

But we have a lot of questions about whether this will work or not, whether girls will be interested or not, whether we are pricing it right or not…etc. So, we thought we’d take the month of October and ask for your help before officially launching it.

Liberty Jane Jeans 2009 Guidebook

Your step-by-step guide to creating jeans for your 18 inch doll

Pattern Included!

You also get access to a free online forum to discuss your projects, get answers, and show off your work.

*Before printing your new guidebook, ensure the ‘page scaling’ is set to ‘none’ in the print dialogue box. If it is set to ‘shrink to fit’ the pattern will not be properly sized.

Here is the link to the printable file, which you can buy using paypal for $3.99. And if you want to give us feedback after trying it, you can visit our forum section on Liberty Jane Studios. Of course, you can always just comment on this post too, and feel free send this post as a link to your friends that might be into sewing.

  1. I would love to try it out. We have a new doll on the way and she has NOTHING stylish to wear yet! I'm excited about the ebook/pattern idea for these, they are all I use anymore for sewing!

I would love to try it as well. Be forewarned though, I am a real novice sewer. I got a machine last December, but only really started playing around with it the last month. As long as patterns are basic patterns and easy to follow, I have no problems with it.

I e-mailed you–this sounds cool! I too am a novice sewer, but my mum and grandma are pretty good! :) I like the idea of downloadable patterns, as some people can't afford couture, no matter how awesome, right now.

I would love to try this out – both my daughter (10yr) and I will try it for you and write up our experiences for you! Thanks so much!

I'd love to know how this works out for you as I have been contemplating the same thing after having several people ask me for my patterns. My problem is having time to write out the directions.

I think your price of $3.99 is very reasonalbe, and sure wish you had the pattern available a couple weeks ago as I just completed a new skinny jeans pattern myself. I never like any from the major companies as they usually don't fit the way I like. Your clothing always fits beautifully.

My concern with you sending out PDFs would be people passing them along without you getting compensation, unless you know how to set it so only one printer can print out that pdf.

    Good luck!

ps. If you want an experienced sewer as tester, I'd love to do it, and pass along the finished product to my neices for Christmas.

  7. I'd love to try out the pattern. I'm new to sewing this year, but have about 5 doll outfits sewn under my belt now. My older daughter is getting her first 18" doll for her birthday, and I'd love to create a pair of jeans for her.

I am so thrilled about this! The thought of being able to create AG outfits using your patterns is making me VERY happy!!

I'd love to help with the sewing and reviewing, too. I'll email you …

I was one of the testers for this pattern, and it worked great! the jeans look awesome on my doll and the pattern was fairly easy to understand. The only problem I had was with the placement of the pockets, as they end up crooked if you follow the instructions. I just had to play around with it a but to get them straight and looking nice. Overall, great value for the amount of clothes I can make with this!
